Sitecore Audit Trail Review
Sitecore Audit Trail Review
I wanted to write a quick review about the Sitecore Audit Trail module that is available on the Sitecore Marketplace. This module gives you the ability to track who is making content changes, what changes they are making, and when they are making them. It gives you the option to look at the audit records globally or on a per item basis.
This is a great tool to have when you need to figure out what happened with a piece of content. It won't tell you exactly what fields were changed, but it will tell you who touched it and when.
A few notes about installation. It took about 2 hours to get set up. It is not a simple package install. You will need to do some configuration. I found the setup instructions at klpatil.github.io to be helpful. You will also need to set up a separate database. If you have any custom log4net configurations, you might run into some issues. Out of box log4net works great with no problems.
The "For Item" and "For Site" layouts are pretty easy to customize without having to compile any code. We had a client that needed a dropdown to filter by site in a multi-site environment. This was pretty easy to implement as front end work.
I was able to get this installed on Sitecore 8.1 without any issues.
Overall this is a great tool if you have a client asking for the ability to log content changes. It is reasonably priced and does what it says.
